Penguins Arena Editor's Review

Penguins Arena is a first person, OpenGL shooting game.

Penguins Arena is funny way to play a first person shooter. The action takes place at the North Pole where the global warming melts the ice. The food is getting more difficult to find each day. In order to survive, the penguin clans have to fight each other for land and food.

There are 4 tribes: blue, pink, orange and green. In single player or in multiplayer mode you will get to be one of the 3 penguins from your kind. Since there aren't any weapons you will have to fight with snowballs and fist punch. The goal is to push your enemies over the ice and into the water. The water is full of sharks that are going to eat anything that falls in. There are also power-ups on the ground to aid you in the fight.

If you have been eaten and there is still a team player alive you will reincarnate and continue to fight. But if all your team is dead you will be a ghost and watch the game from the clouds. Even if you are a ghost, the game is still interesting: you have snow bombs that can be used to push the enemies into the water. The maps aren't rich in detail but small enough to offer short rounds to play.

The game is very fun to play, exciting and full of colors. I spent a lot of time both in multiplayer and single player modes. When you are in multiplayer mode and play in fullscreen mode the game graphics slow down due to insufficient video resources. The more team mates you have when the round ends, the more points you get. You can play the game for hours, and the one who wins has the best score. Unlike most of games, the computer enemies are quite smart. You have a slide bar and you can chose how good you want them to be.

Pluses: good action, great team-play, fun to play.

Drawbacks / flaws: requires a good video card, or you will be forced to play in window mode with all details on 'low'.

In conclusion: if you are looking for a fun game to play with your friends, Penguins Arena is a great first person shooter.
